From an early age, Lisa’s life was marked by chaos. Born into a household plagued by addiction and instability, she was impacted deeply by her parents’ struggles. Her mother was a lifelong drug addict, and her father battled severe alcoholism.
The instability of her home life contributed to homelessness, abuse, and profound neglect. Lisa recalls moments of living in tents and cars, often surrounded by people consumed by addiction. “Chaos since day one,” she says of her early years.
In an attempt to numb the pain, Lisa turned to drugs herself at a young age, starting at just ten years old. By the time she was 24, she was heavily involved in intravenous drug use, relying on substances to escape the overwhelming weight of her circumstances. Yet, when she became pregnant with her first child, a spark of determination ignited within her. She resolved to break the cycle for her children, vowing to provide them with a life free from the hardships she had endured.
Lisa stayed true to her promise, but sobriety didn’t come without challenges. Even after years of sobriety, she found herself haunted by anxiety, depression, and the lingering scars of trauma. “It’s hard to feel normal in society when you’ve been through the full gambit,” she admits.
Battle with Depression, Anxiety and PTSD
Lisa’s mental health battles included severe anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). “I couldn’t walk into a store without feeling like everyone thought I was a tweaker,” she shares, a residual effect of her past life. Her trauma often played in a loop in her mind, making it difficult to focus on the present or find peace in everyday situations. “I was constantly questioning myself,” she reflects.
Seeking relief from depression and intrusive thoughts, Lisa turned to TMS therapy for help. TMS offered renewed hope that she hadn’t found in traditional treatments. The therapy, which uses magnetic fields to stimulate areas of the brain associated with mood regulation, seemed like a promising step toward reclaiming her mental health.
How Lisa Felt After TMS Therapy at Inland Empire TMS
At first, she was skeptical, unsure if the treatment would truly make a difference. But as the sessions progressed, Lisa began to notice welcome changes.
“My anxiety, which used to be through the roof, is so low now,” Lisa says. Her scores on anxiety and depression assessments began to plummet—dropping 50% and 97%, respectively. The trauma that once replayed constantly in her mind began to lose its grip. “For the first time, I’m not questioning myself all the time. I feel like a veil has been lifted,” she marvels.
How TMS Affected Lisa’s Relationships
Lisa’s dramatic change has profoundly impacted her relationships. Her children have noticed the change. “They’ve seen me put in the work,” she says. Her fiancé also sees a significant difference, often commenting on her reduced anger and increased patience.
Even her external interactions have shifted. In a recent conflict with a neighbor, Lisa surprised herself by handling the situation calmly and assertively rather than resorting to the rage-fueled outbursts of her past. “I didn’t black out. I processed it, said what I needed to, and moved on,” she said. For Lisa, moments like these highlights how far she has come.
Additional Benefits from TMS
Lisa’s TMS journey has produced benefits beyond her mental health. Her sleep has improved, her energy feels lighter, and she is finally experiencing what she describes as “beautiful” moments of normalcy. Tasks that once felt impossible, like shopping alone or baking bread, have become manageable and even enjoyable. “I feel like a whole new person,” she says with pride.
Though Lisa’s TMS story is deeply personal, she shares it with the hope of inspiring others to seek help. “If it can fix me, it can do wonders for others,” she insists. For Lisa, the transformation from TMS has been nothing short of life-changing. With a renewed sense of purpose, she looks forward to a future filled with possibilities, free from the chains of her past.
