Rebecca’s Story: Overcoming Insomnia and Anxiety with TMS

When Rebecca first visited us at Inland Empire TMS, she didn’t walk in as a patient—she was a business owner seeking a professional connection. However, what started as a business meeting turned into a life-changing experience when she shared with us her personal struggles with severe insomnia and anxiety.

For years, Rebecca had suffered from chronic sleep deprivation, waking up night after night without being able to fall back to sleep. This wasn’t just an occasional bad night’s rest—it had been constant for six to seven years. This drastic lack of sleep caused exhaustion, anxiety, and significant stress. At our first meeting, when Rebecca walked into our TMS clinic, she had gone five full days without sleep. As she shared her story with us, alarm bells were ringing. Rebecca needed help.

The Link Between Insomnia and Mental Health

Rebecca’s insomnia wasn’t an isolated problem—it was connected to her longstanding anxiety and the demands of running her business, which provides in-home care for seniors. Her work was emotionally intense and demanding, requiring her to be “on-call” nearly 24/7. The pressure of managing clients’ immediate needs, combined with the responsibility of supporting their families, left her feeling constantly on edge.

Rebecca’s situation is a common pattern we see – anxiety and depression contribute to insomnia and the insomnia in turn increases the anxiety and depression, in a vicious cycle.

  • Anxiety kept her mind racing at night, preventing her from falling or staying asleep.
  • Sleep deprivation heightened her stress and irritability during the day, making daily challenges feel overwhelming.
  • Her emotional resilience weakened, affecting her ability to engage positively with her family, employees, and clients.

Despite years of suffering, Rebecca had never seriously considered that there might be an effective treatment option beyond lifestyle changes and coping mechanisms. Fortunately, that day she met Kyle and the team at Inland Empire TMS was the beginning of an amazing transformation in her mental health.

Choosing TMS To Treat Anxiety and Insomnia

After learning about Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and undergoing an EEG brain scan, Rebecca decided to try treatment. TMS is a non-invasive, medication-free treatment that stimulates brain activity in targeted areas associated with mood and sleep regulation. Because TMS targets areas of the brain directly, it can produce long-lasting changes in mood and behavior.

After her first TMS session, she still struggled to sleep, and only felt minor improvement. But by her third session, she noticed a change—she finally got a little sleep. It wasn’t much, but it was a positive start.

How TMS Transformed Rebecca’s Sleep

  • Starting Score: On a clinical sleep scale where 32 is the best possible sleep, Rebecca began at a 4, indicating near-total sleep deprivation.
  • After 5 TMS Sessions: She improved to a 7, still poor quality sleep but trending in the right direction. It was enough to give her a glimmer of hope.
  • After 10 TMS Sessions: After just 10 TMS sessions, Rebecca jumped from a starting score of 4 to 27, a dramatic improvement. Rebecca once again was able to fall asleep and stay asleep consistently.
  • Final Scores: By the end of her 40-session TMS treatment, Rebecca consistently scored 31 out of 32 on the sleep scale—achieving normal, high-quality sleep for the first time in years.

How TMS Helped Rebecca With Anxiety and Depression

Rebecca’s results from TMS were fantastic:

  • 98% Reduction in Depression Symptoms
Initially, Rebecca didn’t consider herself as being depressed. However, after completing treatment, she recognized the mental fog and negativity in her life had lifted. She felt more present, more optimistic, and able to enjoy life again.
  • 67% Reduction in Anxiety
While she still experiences some job-related stress, it is no longer debilitating. She is able to handle difficult challenges without spiraling into an anxious state, and her mind no longer races uncontrollably at night.
  • Improved Relationships
Rebecca’s husband noticed she had become kinder and more patient, a stark contrast to the irritability she had displayed for years due to exhaustion. Her employees also saw a positive shift—she became a better listener, more engaged, and less reactive to daily stressors.

“I Didn’t Know I Was Depressed—But I Know I’m Happy Now”

One of the most eye-opening moments in Rebecca’s journey was realizing how much her mental state had improved without her even realizing how much she had been struggling. Sometimes depression and anxiety sneak up on people and grow over time, without them even realizing how they have changed.

Rebecca had always been a high-functioning person, pushing through exhaustion and stress, assuming that was just the nature of life. But after completing TMS therapy, she felt a sense of peace and joy she hadn’t experienced in years.

“I used to focus on what was wrong. Now, my thoughts are centered on how I can help and make things better.”

Why TMS is a Game-Changer for Mental Health

Rebecca’s story demonstrates that TMS isn’t just for people with severe, diagnosed depression—it’s for anyone who feels stuck in patterns of stress, anxiety, or sleep problems that traditional treatments haven’t resolved. Maintaining positive mental health is crucial to living a happy, productive life.

Rebecca’s message to others suffering from anxiety, depression, or insomnia is clear: “Don’t wait! There’s help, and it’s simple.”
